About Malo

Opened in downtown Des Moines in May 2014, MALO is Des Moines’ destination for Latin cuisine. From classic Havana cocktails to inventive Mexican dishes, MALO celebrates all the flavors of Latin America.

MALO is located in the historic Fire Station No. 1, a renovated art deco building owned and operated by the Des Moines Social Club, an innovative arts and entertainment non-profit.

Parking

Metered street parking (free on Sunday and after 9pm) is available directly in front of MALO as well as on adjacent streets. Free parking is also available in the Wells Fargo garage at the southeast corner of 9th and Mulberry after 5pm and on weekends.

Malo’s Artwork

MALO worked with Liz Lidgett Fine Art to source and commission original artwork for the restaurant from local, national and international artists. From lighting and furnishings to prints and murals, MALO’s artwork is part of the very identity of the restaurant.
